Big Update (13, 14, 24, 28, 29)

August 2, 2008
We got in to Perth, Scotland today and checked the 99 notebooks email account to find a lot of exciting notebook news to report on. These notebooks are starting to move around, and we finally got a response for a notebook that we left in a random area! The notebook we left in a bike basket in Amsterdam was found and passed on. The following messages all were received within the last week or so:

Notebook 29:

I got it and thank you verymuch.
it is a great idea..
thanks for staying at lucahouse in amsterdam
lieke

Notebook 14:

I love the idea of doing this notebook. Its such a great way to learn about others. It opens up our eyes to what is going on in this world. Not just in our town or anything else like that but around the world. It shows me all about the community. How there are people who are in more need and help than i am.

Thank you for creating this notebook. It truely is an eye opener and a lovely idea

Notebook 24:

Hi, it’s me Maggie’s mom. I had fun with the notebook and kind of collaged 4 pages. Ah, not sure I should have done that many but…I did have a birthday, and I do have some fabric to tape down and play with. I even put in one of my labels and that has my name on it. after reading your blog info, I’m not sure that’s such a good idea. I am wondering how out there these might get. I could get it moving only in my extended family and then my name in it is no big thing.

(In response to this, we would like people with notebooks to add whatever information they would like to the notebooks. Take credit for what you create. Let people know that you made something special.)

Notebook 28:

Hello,
I’ve just been in Amsterdam and I stumbled across book number 28 of 99 in a bicycle basket on Kerkstraat. My friends and I picked up the book, wrote a note in it and have just dropped it off in Berlin- in the Wombat hostel, locker number 2 in room 302.
We thought it was such a nice idea we had to get involved!
I hope book number 28 has a nice trip!!!
Stef xx

Notebook 13:

Ok, started this one and asked a neighbor artist if he’d like to continue it.

(I guess we can’t post our entries directly to the blog ? So-)
Here’s so far, pages 1 –3 with a half page in the middle collaged in between.

Fun fun, sending it on, will let you know when.
Michael

We also have a special treat for you guys. Michael was kind enough to scan the pages from Notebook 13 that he worked on. We loved getting to see them! We also want to encourage everyone else to do the same and scan or photograph any parts of any journal that they come across. They can send us images of pages that they worked on or even just other pages that they find interesting. We would love to see what is getting added to them. Here is one of the pages that Michael created. I am having technical difficulties with uploading the rest of the images in one blog post, so I will post the rest of the pages in the next few days.

Europe Update…

July 30, 2008

Hello world! The 99 Notebooks team is in Paris right now. We spent some time in Amsterdam and gave away a few notebooks while we were there. We might be a little wrong on the numbers, but we think this is how it all went down:

Notebook 26: Given to two guys from Canada at a train station in Brussels.

Notebook 28: Left in a bicycle basket on a city street in Amsterdam

Notebook 29: Given to our hostess in Amsterdam, Lieke, who was amazing! We had such a fun time at her apartment. Amsterdam is quite an amazing city and if anyone wants to go there and stay somewhere other than a crowded hotel or hostel, you should stay with Lieke and get a true Amsterdam experience. Email us and we will hook you up with her email address.

Notebook 30: Left next to the Elephant Statue in front of Musee d’Orsay in Paris. If you found this notebook in front of the museum, email us and let us know where you are from and what you were doing in Paris that day!

That’s it for now. We will probably give away one or two more notebooks in France and then a few more in the UK and Ireland.

Bon soiree!
