Notebook 24 blows us away!

September 9, 2008

Notebook 24 was sent to Kathy from Modesto, CA. When we visited Kathy a few weeks ago, not only did she show us her amazing creations in the notebook, but she gave it to us!

Some people who have responded have gone the extra mile and added things to multiple pages. Michael from SF even added some great artwork to 6 different pages. But when we saw Notebook 24, we couldn’t believe our eyes. Kathy filled up 31 pages! And we aren’t talking simple cut and paste here. She went all out on it. There is intricate stitching, carefully placed fabrics, thoughtful memories and diary entries, and amazing little hidden pockets with pictures and hidden treasures that make it so fun to flip through and read. Go Kathy!

We really don’t know what to do with this notebook. It is such a treasure for us that we are scared to give it away with the chance of never seeing it again. At this time, we are going to keep it in our possession, and maybe the day will come and we will know it is the right time for this notebook to continue its journey. Check back in the coming weeks and we will start scanning some of the pages from this notebook.

Big Update (13, 14, 24, 28, 29)

August 2, 2008
We got in to Perth, Scotland today and checked the 99 notebooks email account to find a lot of exciting notebook news to report on. These notebooks are starting to move around, and we finally got a response for a notebook that we left in a random area! The notebook we left in a bike basket in Amsterdam was found and passed on. The following messages all were received within the last week or so:

Notebook 29:

I got it and thank you verymuch.
it is a great idea..
thanks for staying at lucahouse in amsterdam
lieke

Notebook 14:

I love the idea of doing this notebook. Its such a great way to learn about others. It opens up our eyes to what is going on in this world. Not just in our town or anything else like that but around the world. It shows me all about the community. How there are people who are in more need and help than i am.

Thank you for creating this notebook. It truely is an eye opener and a lovely idea

Notebook 24:

Hi, it’s me Maggie’s mom. I had fun with the notebook and kind of collaged 4 pages. Ah, not sure I should have done that many but…I did have a birthday, and I do have some fabric to tape down and play with. I even put in one of my labels and that has my name on it. after reading your blog info, I’m not sure that’s such a good idea. I am wondering how out there these might get. I could get it moving only in my extended family and then my name in it is no big thing.

(In response to this, we would like people with notebooks to add whatever information they would like to the notebooks. Take credit for what you create. Let people know that you made something special.)

Notebook 28:

Hello,
I’ve just been in Amsterdam and I stumbled across book number 28 of 99 in a bicycle basket on Kerkstraat. My friends and I picked up the book, wrote a note in it and have just dropped it off in Berlin- in the Wombat hostel, locker number 2 in room 302.
We thought it was such a nice idea we had to get involved!
I hope book number 28 has a nice trip!!!
Stef xx

Notebook 13:

Ok, started this one and asked a neighbor artist if he’d like to continue it.

(I guess we can’t post our entries directly to the blog ? So-)
Here’s so far, pages 1 –3 with a half page in the middle collaged in between.

Fun fun, sending it on, will let you know when.
Michael

We also have a special treat for you guys. Michael was kind enough to scan the pages from Notebook 13 that he worked on. We loved getting to see them! We also want to encourage everyone else to do the same and scan or photograph any parts of any journal that they come across. They can send us images of pages that they worked on or even just other pages that they find interesting. We would love to see what is getting added to them. Here is one of the pages that Michael created. I am having technical difficulties with uploading the rest of the images in one blog post, so I will post the rest of the pages in the next few days.

24, 25, and Europe!

July 22, 2008

Team 99 Notebooks will be leaving for Europe tomorrow! We are swimming in rainbows of anticipation for this amazing adventure, and we will definitely be bringing some notebooks with us to distribute in some of the places we are going. We’ll be traveling to London, Amsterdam, Paris, Scotland, and Ireland and we are super excited to see The Flaming Lips in Belfast, Ireland at the Belsonic Festival. It’s going to be epic. Maybe we can give a notebook to the band. I think they would enjoy it.

We also sent off a few more today. Notebook 24 was mailed to Kathy in Modesto, CA (Maggie’s Mom!) and Notebook 25 was given to Kyle in San Diego, CA (Spencer’s Brother!). Go Family!

SInce we will be traveling for the next three weeks, it will be hard to keep the site updated every day. We will try to do what we can and get to an internet cafe every once in a while to see if any notebooks have been passed on.
