Notebook 21

Maggie gave notebook number 21 to the nice Australian fellow working at the front desk of our very last hostel in Europe, Smart Hyde Park View in London, England on August 12, 2008.

A busy day!

July 17, 2008

Today was a busy day for us at 99 Notebooks! We started off by biking over to the Ocean Beach Post Office where we mailed 4 notebooks off. Lucky notebook #13 went to Michael in San Francisco, who saw a post we made on the Craigslist forums and was interested in the project. Notebook #14 went off to Oklahoma to JJ, who read about us on our friend Heather’s blog. We mailed #15 and #16 to Tricia in Sherman Oaks, CA who also read about us on Heather’s blog. Way to go Heather! You rock! Tricia also happens to be a proud member of what may have been the greatest kickball team in the history of the world, The Kitshickers. Read all about them, they were amazing.

After the Post Office we rode our bikes over to the Ocean Beach Farmers Market, where we gave away Notebook #19 (pictured above). We wanted to have this notebook passed around the Farmers Market today, so we slapped a little post-it note on it that told people to keep passing it around. We also attached a pen to the notebook so it could be easily written in. We started this notebook off by giving it “Captain Mountain Bob”, an amazing OB resident who told us some wild stories about some adventures that he has been on. This guy was great, and a perfect person to start this notebook. This will be an interesting one to follow…hopefully a lot of people got to write in it today.

We then gave Notebook #18 to a guy that was selling really cool handmade glass jars. Maggie bought one of the jars, so I pulled out a notebook and handed it to him and started describing how it worked. With little hesitation, he took the notebook, flipped it open, and immediately started writing in it. It was awesome! He knew what he wanted to say and he didn’t waste any time. Right before we left the Farmers Market, we left Notebook #17 in a payphone on Newport Avenue. If you ended up finding Notebook 17, send us an email and tell us how you came across it.

After we got back home, we decided to start some more notebooks, so I gave some to my roommates and girlfriend. Dave got #20. Maggie got #21. Matt got #22. And Bob got #23.

Whew! That was a lot of notebooks. 11 in one day! Just a heads up: I used Media Mail to send the notebooks at the post office, which I have been told takes a lot longer than Priority Mail, so it might take a few extra days for some of you to get your notebooks in the mail. If you are reading this website because someone handed you a notebook in the last few days, send me an email and tell me where you got it and what you are going to do with it. Keep me updated and I will keep the world updated. Thanks!
