99 Notebooks is an experiment involving composition notebooks and people all over the world.
Since July 2008, we have been giving out blank composition notebooks. Instructions are added to the inside cover of each notebook:
1. Read everything that has already been added
2. Add something to the notebook
3. Pass it on to someone else
Currently there are 60 notebooks circulating the earth. Our goal is to send off 99 total notebooks and track their journeys to the best of our abilities. We update the site every time we get word that a notebook has been passed on, and people are encouraged to send in photos and scanned pages along with any stories about the notebook they came across. Once a notebook’s pages are filled, we make arrangements with the last person that writes in it to have it shipped back to us so we can read it and share its amazing story with you. Every person that comes across one of these notebooks will have an impact on its journey and its ultimate destination. Some notebooks may be lost or forgotten along the way. Some may travel all over the earth. It is everything that is unknown about the experiment that makes it so exciting.
